Commercial Electrical Estimator

About the Role:
We are a well-established, union-based electrical contractor looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Commercial Electrical Estimator to join our office team. Our company focuses exclusively on commercial electrical developments, with primary emphasis on hospital and healthcare facility projects. We do not service the residential sector.

In this role, you will own the pre-construction bidding process and provide ongoing technical tracking of active commercial projects. Your primary objective is to use EBM (Electrical Bid Manager) software to produce highly accurate competitive bids and cross-reference ongoing project paperwork to ensure jobs stay technically aligned with the original estimate.

While hospital/healthcare experience is not strictly required, candidates who bring a strong background in medical facilities will command a higher starting salary tier.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pre-Construction & Bidding: Perform accurate digital material takeoffs (conduit, wire, fixtures, switchgear, and complex commercial/medical assemblies) and build competitive, comprehensive bids using EBM software.
• Project Plan Tracking: Review active project paperwork, including daily field logs, submittals, and material orders, to verify that physical field progress matches the original bid scope and percentages.
• Variance Management: Proactively identify and flag material or labor hour deviations from the initial estimate before they impact project profitability, acting as a technical bridge between the field and our accounting department.
• Change Order Management: Meticulously review blueprint revisions and field-requested design changes on commercial jobs to calculate precise technical scope adjustments, labor impact, and material costs.
• RFI Support: Draft and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify commercial project blueprint or spec discrepancies with engineers, architects, and general contractors.

Qualifications:

• 3 - 5+ years of dedicated experience in commercial electrical estimating within the electrical contracting industry.
• Strong proficiency in EBM (Electrical Bid Manager) electrical bidding software (or something equivalent) and plan review tools like Bluebeam.
• Deep technical understanding of commercial electrical systems, materials, assemblies, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex blueprints, structural drawings, and technical specifications.
• Excellent organizational skills with a strong aptitude for cross-referencing field tracking documentation against initial bid parameters.
• Preferred (Plus): Direct experience estimating or tracking electrical systems for hospitals, OSHPD/HCAI regulated facilities, or medical centers, but not required.
